he Great Northern is a recently refurbished freehold purchased from Greene King early 2013. The pub was renovated to a very high standard by Pub People and reopened in June 2013. The pub sits just off a junction from the busy A610 to Ripley from Nottingham and backs onto the canal, making it a hotspot in the summer.

Langley Mill is only a small town in the Amber Valley district of Derbyshire. It is on the border of Nottinghamshire, and runs into the towns of Aldercar (to the west) and Heanor (to the south). Across the River Erewash is the Nottinghamshire town of Eastwood. Although the town has an “NG” postcode, it is in Derbyshire. (The boundary used to be the River Erewash, but the River Erewash canal basin moved from Nottinghamshire to Derbyshire a few years ago, and the A610 is the new boundary.

A real landmark pub, The Great Northern has always had a massive focus on real ale and now, because it’s a freehold, we can offer the widest range of local and national cask ales for miles around. The pub also has a strong cider following and so a permanent selection of, at least, two ciders proves hugely successful.

When the pub reopened it also reopened with a brand new kitchen and new menu. The pub also has a daily chef’s specials chalkboard to look out for which houses unique, interesting and seasonal dishes.
