Respect the roast
Here at The Hogsmill Tavern Toby Carvery, we believe there’s only one way to do our beloved Great British roast – and that’s properly. Every spud is peeled on-site then checked by hand, all of our meat is slow-cooked to succulent perfection, and our Yorkshire puds are freshly made throughout the day. That’s what makes us home of the roast.

My Husband and I visited the Toby Carvery in Worcester Park last Sunday and had the most appalling roast dinner. We have eaten at this Carvery on several occasions but this was quite some time ago. The staff as usual were very friendly but the food was a disgrace and quite honestly inedible. We arrived at 8.45 pm after attending a dance competition in Epsom with our grand daughter and we were very hungry. I chose roast turkey and beef and my Husband chose just turkey, we progressed to the vegetables which were a disgrace. The courgettes looked like a soggy mess at the bottom of the serving dish, the stuffing was almost finished and was dried out and crusty, the green beans were dry and stiff as too were the carrots, there was just one spoon of mash potato left which we realised later was cold and had undercooked lumps in it and there were two dishes of roast potatoes, one which contained about three potatoes and the other half full. Over to the gravy station where the mint sauce bowl was empty, the horse radish sauce had all manner of other sauces mixed in and was almost empty dirty and disgusting. I am not sure if it was because the plates were stone cold but all the food was cold and dry, the roast beef was gristly and could not be chewed so I was forced to discreetly take it out of my mouth and hide it in my napkin. The turkey was all sinew and slimy and tasted fatty. Not only this but all the surrounding floor area was littered with dirty napkins used cutlery and promotional cards and no one was attempting to clear the area up. Customers were angry because no one was returning to take there money or let them pay there bill and it was total chaos. It is okay to give customers a good deal on the meal but not if the quality of the food is compromised as it most definitely is in this and the Ewell branch. We will definitely not be returning ever again to a Toby Carvery because if the serving staff are instructed by head office to minimise on wastage as we have been previously told by staff then things will not change.
